Several popular television series - Heroes, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Without a Trace, House M.D. and Desperate Housewives - are about to premiere new seasons and some interesting casting news has hit the web in recent weeks.

As its arguably better counterpart, The 4400, show helmed by genre veterans including René Echevarria, Scott Peters and Ira Steven Behr, approaches the finale of its fourth season, Heroes are getting ready for new superhero adventures. Season two opener Four Months Later airs on September 24. New additions to the cast include Veronica Mars‘ Kristen Bell, beautiful young Hawaiian actress Janel Parrish and Dania Ramirez, known from her recurring role in The Sopranos.

Hugh Laurie, who is currently filming detective flick The Night Watchman with Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker, returns in the fourth season of House M.D. on September 25, in an episode titled Alone. There are several new cast members – Olivia Wilde, Kal Penn, Peter Jacobson, Anne Dudek and Edi Gathegi - playing fellowship opportunity candidates.

Two excellent crime shows have season premieres on September 27. The drama with the Miniature Killer continues as Grissom et co. Struggle to find kidnapped CSI Sara Sidle in Dead Doll, the first episode in the eighth season of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Jessica Lucas has signed on to play an investigator in training in a four-episode arc and Janeane Garofalo will join the team of investigators as a government agent.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s defanged baddie James Marsters has signed on for a recurring role of a detective in Without a Trace, the other show that premieres on September 27.

Another Whedon show veteran, Buffy and Firefly’s Nathan Fillion, last seen in Tim Minear’s Drive, will join Dana Delany in Now You Know, a new episode of Desperate Housewives, on September 30. Other additions to the cast include Kevin Rahm and Tuc Watkins, who will play the new gay couple in the neighbourhood.

Lost does not return until January, but casting rumours are as alive and kicking as ever. Harold Perrineau will return in season four and the new additions to the cast include Jeff Fahey, Jeremy Davies, Rebecca Madder, Ken Leung and Lance Reddick.
