Simon Pegg and John Cho cast as Scotty and SuLu in Star Trek XI

Hot Fuzz writer and star Simon Pegg has been confirmed as the new Scotty and Korean actor John Cho will take over from George Takei as Hikaru SuLu in the upcoming Star Trek movie, which starts filming in November.

Pegg, who is a big fan of the Star Wars saga, is best known from horror comedy Shaun of the Dead and has also appeared in Mission: Impossible III and Grindhouse. He was born in Gloucester in 1970 and has a BA in theatre, film and television.

John Cho was born in Seoul in 1972 and has lived in Los Angeles since 1978. He got his degree in English and Literature at Berkeley. His television appearances include Felicity, House M.D., Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy and he also showed a knack for comedy in movies American Pie and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. When he is not acting, he writes music and is the lead singer of the band Left of Zed.

Actors previously confirmed for the Star Trek prequel include Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy (Spock), Anton Yelchin (Chekov), Zoe Saldana (Uhura) and Eric Bana, who will be getting the Romulan makeover as the movie’s villain, Nero.

Star Trek XI was written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and will be directed by Alias and Lost writer J.J. Abrams. The movie is scheduled for release next Christmas.
