A short interview with William Shatner appeared online today in which the Star Trek icon denies the rumours that surfaced in recent days about him making a cameo in J.J. Abrams’ Trek prequel.

Hollywood.com reported yesterday that the actor would be making an appearance in the movie as the old Captain Kirk (the young one will be played by Chris Pine) in spite of the character being dead, and joining his colleague Leonard Nimoy, who according to Shatner will play a very “functional” role in the new film.

Shatner voiced his disappointment about not getting the opportunity to reprise his role and reiterated that he has not been offered a part in Star Trek XI, adding that, considering that the movie starts filming in a couple of weeks, the chances of him being offered a role are slight.

Commenting on the possibility that the reason why he has not been approached is that Captain Kirk has been dead for a while, the actor dismissed this as a valid explanation, saying that bringing a character back to life in a work of science fiction is generally not that big a problem.

Star Trek XI starts filming in November with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy, Karl Urban, Eric Bana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Zoe Saldana and Anton Yelchin starring.
