Virtuality cast keeps growing
The 12-member crew of Ron Moore’s upcoming TV pilot Virtuality looks ready to take off.
Clea DuVall (Carnivale, Heroes), Erik Jensen (CSI) and Jose Pablo Cantillo (Standoff) are the latest additions to the cast of the television film that is supposed to kick off the new science fiction series by the Battlestar Galactica creator.
The three actors will join Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, James D’Arcy, Kerry Bishe, Jimmi Simpson, Joy Bryant, Sienna Guillory, Nelson Lee, Omar Metwally and Richie Coster.
Virtuality was written by Ron Moore and Michael Taylor. Set on board Earth’s first starship, the Phaeton, the pilot follows the 12-member crew on a 10-year exploratory mission to a distant solar system. The crew has advanced virtual reality modules available to them to help them deal with the long journey into space. The virtual experience is taken to a new level by a glitch in the system (or a possible hack) and the appearance of a mysterious figure, the Green-Eyed Man, who has a knack for killing humans in virtual space.
Clea DuVall will play the starship’s co-pilot and engineer. Erik Jensen is set to play the navigator and Jose Pablo Cantillo will be the ship’s mathematician.
Among the previously announced cast, James D’Arcy will star as Roger Fallon, Phaeton’s psych officer and therapist. The character has been described as a cross between Galactica’s Gaius Baltar and Brother Cavil. (An interesting combination to say the least.) Sienna Guillory will play Rika Goddard, Fallon’s wife, who is having a virtual affair with the mission commander, captain Frank Pike. Pike will be played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, best known from the recently cancelled series New Amsterdam.
The Virtuality pilot was ordered by Fox in April. Production is expected to begin later this month and the film is expected to air some time in mid-season.
