The AMC drama Mad Men, which earned 16 Primetime Emmy nominations earlier this week, took home three Television Critics Association (TCA) Awards this weekend at the 24th annual TCA Awards.
It won awards for Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Drama and Outstanding New Program. This is the first time ever that AMC has won any critics’ awards.
“Obviously, the message of smoking, drinking and whoring has resonated with the TCA,” said John Slattery, whose character suffered a heart attack while delivering the aforementioned message to audiences worldwide last season.
NBC’s 30 Rock was the winner on the comedy side of things, winning best comedy, with Individual Achievement in Comedy Award being presented to Tina Fey.
HBO’s crime drama The Wire, which ended its run earlier this year, won the Heritage Award. The award acknowledges longstanding programs that have lasting cultural or social impact.
Saturday Night Live executive producer Lorne Michaels picked up the Career Achievement Award.
