Torchwood: Children of Earth goes into production

The third season of BBC’s top rated science fiction drama Torchwood has gone into production in Cardiff. The show is set to return for a five episode run in 2009 under the title Torchwood: Children of Earth.
After an excellent second season, the third one will follow the Torchwood team – Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) and Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd) - as they fight their greatest nemesis so far to save human race. Kai Owen will return as Gwen’s husband Rhys Williams and Tom Price will reprise the role of PC Andy. Special guest stars will include Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who), Paul Copely (Coronation Street) and Liz May Brice (The Bill).
Torchwood creator Russell T Davies said: “The new series of Torchwood is hugely bold and promises to be bigger and better than ever the audience is in for an amazing ride. This series is one big serial and the most ambitious story we’ve ever made, and we’ve got plenty of surprises in store.”
“We hope to make Torchwood a gripping and surprising TV event with storylines that push our team into greater danger and sacrifice. Joining our main cast are some fantastic guest artists who will only add to making this unmissable TV,” said Julie Gardner, Head of Drama at BBC Wales.
Torchwood: The Complete Second Season – a five-disc DVD set with more than three hours of special features – will be released on September 16.
