Battlestar Galactica returns for the final run on January 20

Battlestar Galactica will return with the final ten episodes on January 20 at 10 PM on the SCI FI Channel. The first half of season four, leading up to the discovery of Earth, ended its run in June. Season 4.0 will be released on DVD on January 6, just in time for viewers to revisit the story before Galactica takes off on its final journey.

Revelations, the mid-season four finale, resolved most of the major storylines and character conflicts, so there has been a lot of debate on what direction the series will take in its final run of episodes.

If Revelations is any indication of what is to come, that is a reassuring thing. The episode is probably the most confidently written finale in recent years, one that trust audiences to return after a major anti-climax and without any big battles to act as cliffhangers.

At the same time, the episode re-established the unflinchingly existentialist premise of the series and, four seasons in, reiterated that Colonials still have no magic way out of the situation, nor anything other than what they have brought with them, the choices they make, and what they are willing to give. You don’t see that kind of integrity often on television.
