The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films presented the 34th annual Saturn Awards on Tuesday, June 24 in Universal City. The awards ceremony was hosted by Jeffrey Ross.

Maui Film Festival - winners
The annual Maui Film Festival closed last week with an awards ceremony. This year’s edition of the festival drew 20,000 people. Festival director Barry Rivers said:

Hollywood Film Festival celebrates genre cinema
The Hollywood Film Festival, presented by STARZ, will mark its return on October 22, 2008, to the state-of-the-art ArcLight Theatres in Hollywood for a twelfth annual, weeklong series of screenings, seminars, competitions, awards and a special presentation of “Genre Cinema.”

American Film Institute names top 10 genre films
The American Film Institute has compiled lists of top 10 movies made in 10 different genres: animation, fantasy, gangster, science fiction, western, sports, mystery, romantic comedy, courtroom drama and epic.
Ballots included 50 movies for each of the genres and the best movies were chosen by actors, critics and other film industry insiders.

Seattle International Film Festival 2008 award winners
The 34th annual Seattle Film Festival closed on Sunday after running for 25 days. This year’s edition of the festival saw almost 200 feature films from 69 countries screened and more than 70,000 ballots cast by the audiences.
