Gomorrah wins top five prizes at European Film Awards

Italian director Matteo Garrone’s Gomorrah, a tale of the Naples underworld based on the book by Roberto Saviano, won five of the 15 top awards, including Best Film, at the 21st European Film Awards. The awards ceremony was held in Copenhagen, Denmark on Saturday, December 6. International Press Academy announces Satellite Award nominees

The International Press Academy has revealed the nominations for the 13th Annual Satellite Awards. In the running for best picture are Frost/Nixon, Frozen River, Milk, Revolutionary Road, Slumdog Millionaire and The Reader. The Satellite Awards will be presented at the ceremony on December 14 at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City. Hunger, Slumdog Millionaire big winners at British Independent Film Awards

Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire and Steve McQueen's Hunger took home three trophies each at the 11th annual British Independent Film Awards (BIFA). Pablo Larrain’s Tony Manero wins top prize at Turin Film Festival

Tony Manero, the drama about a serial killer obsessed with John Travolta's character from Saturday Night Fever, has won the top prize at the 26th annual Turin Film Festival, which closed on Saturday. Chilean director Pablo Larrain also took the FIPRESCI prize for best film, while Alfredo Castro won best actor honours. Abdel Kechiche wins European Film Academy Critics’ Award 2008

The European Film Academy (EFA), the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) and EFA Productions have announced that this year's FIPRESCI prize has been awarded to French filmmaker Abdellatif Kechiche for his film La Graine et la mulet (The Secret of the Grain).
